Although my library is too large for my iPod, I'm scared of manual management because I always am changing tags (misspellings and fine tunings), adding special comments, filling in release year and other missing tags. I'm using only checked items for iPod management. It would be a pain to go and update each modified file everytime (Does anyone know if songs with updated tags would be overwritten (replaced) on the iPod or would there be duplicate files in manual mode?). The good things with auto sync is automatic detection of changes with tags (syncing will update file info that was changed since the last time I updated).

For use on multiple computers (manual management) to work efficiently, the program would need some way to read if a file is a duplicate. For example: I have a song already on iPod, and I want to import an album with that song on it. And instead of creating a duplicate, it would add all songs of the album except the dupe (a confirmation dialogue would be preferable).

And after you've transferred a file off another machine, manual and auto synching your ipod with the main itunes library will not take that new file off the ipod into the library. (unless you used disk mode to bring them to your library afterwards, or use other software to get it on the computer)

Something that I've never heard requested is for an option to see what playlists contains a certain song. Sometimes I delete a song from my computer through iTunes, but I forget that it belonged in a playlist. It'd be nice to have an alert or display if a song's in a playlist before deleting it.

An example that goes with this would be song duplicates. One has a comment that says "happy" and the other is blank. Happy is a tag I use for making a playlist full of cheerful songs. And if I delete that one, it leaves my smart playlist although I still have the same song, just as a different file.

<strong>Update:</strong> As of iTunes 7, you can See what song a playlist is in (with a right click, then Show in Playlist)
