In an attempt to match the caliber of scholarly writing and technical diction, I present you with Prejudice of Music in the Congregation of Song and other Phrasal Groupings. There are multiple “Audio-Admiring Paradigms” of elitist listening forms and casual listening. The major modalities involved with processing music categorically involve the forms of hook, riff, song, album, artist, genre, and period/setting. The most popular methods of approaching and judging music are through artist, album, and song. Some people are stuck with favorite artists, others feel compelled to landmark albums, and other hand-pick songs or singles. Lovers of Artists and Albums tend to collide into the same methodology of bodies of work, whether it be a series of songs in a time-limited album or an anthology by an artist and related projects. They savor the commonality and conceptual connection with the delivery of an artist or order of an album. This group will more likely purchase or appreciate CDs, records, tapes, or sets. Lovers of Songs tend to be selective within artist or album repertoire. The consensus that a lengthy grouping of songs lacks adequate variance is common to the now anciently current radio and moderately contemporary mixtapes, remixes, and playlists.
Radiohead seems to fit well as a poster child of the current Pop Music. They have taken the sentiments typical of Pop Art and electromagnify it. The attitude of ambivalence and conflicted duality seem to be expressed in the sonic compositions. They blend electronic transformation with traditional instrumentation of rock or alternative music. They utilize unconventional and uglier tones melded together with pretty pitches. The realistic but slightly morphed singing creates a strong contrast with how the tracks are laid down that continues a saga of music. They might not be creating a new genre or anything, but I can see today’s culture being reflected in a good light by this band. They are popular because of balance of tastes. I can’t say I like a fifth of what plays on pop radio, let alone all radio, but some artists are capable of a wide fan reach. I think Radiohead’s In Rainbows is one of 2007′s best albums, but that is irrelevant to the rest of the monologue. Indie is Post-Pop I can guarantee this term (indie) is the delimiter within the continuum just like Postmodern was/is to modernism. You don’t hear terms like Pop Film or Pop Books much [...]

Language is meaningful. So what? Meaning is to have purpose, intention, or significance. To signify is to be a sign to express or represent ideas or knowledge. Language can have meaning. But is there actually meaning in the previous sentence? What is Language? Language is transmission of thoughts and ideas through arbitrary symbols of speech, writing, and behavior. Is it comforting to know that exchange between the smartest living organisms is based on pointless movements, utterances, and scribbles? Different regions assign values to these symbols and each individual contributes a permutation in value. The symbols then are used to represent a form. The forms are then combined to reflect a motive or relay information. The information then is directly assigned to a unique situation. So language is faulty for arguing a particular instance (composed of many values) with generic rules (through assignment of consistent global traits). Communication Methodology. I break it down like this, although they probably aren’t rigidly divided: Idea > Formulation > Delivery > Capture Idea. This is a mental sensation. Some may call it an activated neural network. Some may see it as a product of thinking. It is difficult to not have ideas. People will say [...]

The U.S. has laws and the laws enforce and prohibit certain activities and protect certain rights. It gets tricky, even if you are a lawyer because some instances and cases have not been settled in court or defined explicitly in an Act or law. For instance, did you know that each recording device sold requires the company to pay a royalty fee to the Copyright Office four times a year per item? Yes. The Audio Home Recording Act mandates royalties and does “other stuff.” The issue here though is infringement, meaning you are violating copyright by copying digital audio in certain cases. XM got in trouble for “distributing” music with XM+MP3 devices. The problem was that they did not have a license to produce permanent copies of mp3s from XM songs. Along the same lines is the VCR: Are they illegal then? No. No recording device is really illegal unless you are a company selling it without the right license. As a consumer of the product, you can’t get arrested for owning a cassette recorder. The key issue to remember is that fair use entitles you to limited rights to handle copyrighted material. You can’t do just anything even if [...]

Like any other holiday in America, people get offended by celebrations. It’s not polite to wish a Merry Christmas. Instead we shall consolidate all holidays as to not offend minority holidays (please note that we don’t care about offending people, just the holiday itself). Today is the 4th of July. Nobody calls it by its real name (Indie Day) due to the controversial nature of humanity. I agree that we should censor ourselves when it comes to thanking our early country dwellers for freedom so that supporter of oppression won’t feel left out. If you are sensitive to historical data, please leave or cover your political correct brain now… Independence Day (no, not the movie) of the United States happened in 1776. Today is one of the only days that almost all people of political preferences watch fireworks or other related activities in acknowledgment of the occasion. It’s a moment when the anti-Bush crowd acknowledges war without calling names. It’s a moment when pro-war folks see justification from a good outcome of war. I’m not sure how many casual historians are aware, but we are actually celebrating two day late! Although the Declaration of Independence was formally printed on July [...]

Politics in music can be: a political front, where political ideology writes the music before artistic expression is considered. An example would be a singer who writes songs specifically for a party (to gain acceptance by a political party or to affect swing states or something stupid). A sub-category might be songwriters writing Christian songs to cater to a certain audience regardless of their own beliefs. In both cases, people are cashing in on particular niches. real feelings that are used by a political group, so that the musician becomes a puppet for a campaign. I think Bob Dylan might fall under this (but I think he was able to avoid being cornered, he might be explaining this on his album, “Another Side”). Dylan clearly has opinions and has spoken clearly about social injustice. He has not, however, segregated himself from the public to hear what he has to say. He never said “Hey, I’m a Democrat. Because of this I am telling you to change.” Instead he speaks from the heart and lets his words stand for what they are. Also, he never attacks people personally based on politics. This would be a logical fallacy against the man. Opinions [...]

Health foods are sometimes more expensive than your basic genetically-modified, science-tampered, chemically treated food. So if you want to consume food that’s good for you, you’ll need to work harder than those eat junk. Small farmers can barely make a living to produce food. Maybe then it’s cheaper to have a garden for yourself, or for a small group like family or neighbors. This is probably the best solution if you have land, but if you need to purchase an area to make your food you might end up paying more for it than just going to the store, considering taxes and fees for owning land, water, and time to care for your crops. If you eat fatty food, you will die. If you eat like a carnivore, you will die. If you eat healthy, you will die. If you don’t eat at all, you will die. This sad fact doesn’t really do anything to this argument (I’m not quite sure if I’m even arguing anything). It seems that eating and cost are closely linked. What is the cheapest thing I can buy while having a well-rounded diet and be filled? It’s not that poor people can’t eat. Going without [...]

Underarm hair is disgusting for females, yet ladies are to tolerate it on men? Don’t get me wrong: I don’t shave my pits, I’m a straight guy, and I’m not really a feminist (in the sense of increasing rights of women only; I’m more of a nongenderist [a made up word] where gender has the least bearing possible on social life so men and women both have rights equally). I’m just curious why men would get grossed out that girls would have hair under their arm. It’s more common in Europe, but I’d like to hear opinions from all around the world. And makeup too- why are women expected to put products on their face? It might imply that they are ugly without it. I’m not trying to argue that it is wrong to do so. Men are using makeup more often than they have in the past. Some women enjoy fancying themselves up. It’s fine if you do, but those who don’t usually get negative comments. The only reason I could come up with is that both makeup and shaving outwardly expresses hygiene and those who don’t do it are perceived as unclean.
Fetally speaking, I’m well past my 100th trimester (three-month term) since I’m over 20 years of age. Today in one of my classes, we were discussing the legalese of Roe v. Wade and recent law pertaining to abortion. From a legal standpoint (and in order to have relevance for the government to be involved), there needs to be constitutional and/or judicial grounds for preserving or abolishing laws. Much of the initial motives for making abortions legal were to protect the pregnant woman. It is claimed that having an early abortion is safer than childbirth. Even if this is true, it is illogical; It would then follow that no child should ever be born which is absurd. Science has taken a wider look at other aspects and it appears that this isn’t a good case to keep partial-birth abortion. My college professor avoided to bring up scientific findings, but abortion itself is shrouded in debate about health risks. I am not an expert so I will not try to push my ideals into this field. I do know, however, that there is potential for numerous psychological problems. Aside from the immediate physical complications that can arise for the mother during the [...]

There are speed limits in all areas of the U.S. Why? To ensure safety. The motive is definitely good, but how do we know the numbers add up and are actually optimal? The majority of people go above the speed limit, whether it is by 2 miles or 20. Do traffic engineers take into considerations the real limit that is set by the herd of drivers? Road conditions are important, but not the only thing to think about. The condition of the pavement will dictate how fast you can go without losing control on a turn. Windy roads aren’t as easy to maneuver at faster speeds. Traffic, congestion, and district suggest all sorts of things to consider. Is it okay if a dense pedestrian area has a maximum speed of 75mph, or to restrict a rural area to 45mph? Speed limits are somewhat subjective or susceptible to political ideals. It is a fact that having an accident at a higher speed increases risk of injury. It would be ridiculous to limit speed on this one fact though. We should just ban all forms of transportation that are faster than walking if we really want to rid the world of driving [...]
