I’m typically not a fan of cover songs–why try to outdo an already fantastic song?  But sometimes a cover comes along that is so unique, so creative, I forget it’s a cover. Thao & Mirah’s take on Pat Benatar’s classic “Love is a Battlefield” is a perfect example of this. Their rendition gives the original pop song new life and will have you saying Pat who?

I almost went to see Thao and the Get Down Stay Down at Plush a few years ago and have tried to get into them ever since.. its not easy, even for an old hipster like me. I like this cover though. The vibes/marimba seems almost ‘marching band interlude’ish’ (which probably makes no sense)

plus Thao & Mirah are opening a few dates for TNP and sharing a stage with Neko gives them cool points!

hahhahhahah Steve, your Neko crush is awesome, but I really can’t get into her music for some reason. I’ll have to agree with you about Thao and the Get Down Stay Down though. I’m not a huge fan, but I do like this song 🙂 /video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NjzKkyQoe1U
